Soap Bark Tree or Soapbark (<i>Quillaja saponaria</i>) in flower. This evergreen tree is native to the warmer parts of Chile. It can grow to 20m tall and produces clusters of starry cream flowers in early summer. It is known as soap bark as the saponin-rich inner bark may be dried, powdered and used as a soap substitute. The extract quillaia is used in a wide range of products, including foods, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics to maintain foaminess and viscosity
