Jargonelle Pear (Pyrus communis 'Jargonelle' [syn 'Epargne']), an old pear variety that differs from most in that the fruit should not be harvested en-masse, but left on the tree and picked as needed. This particular, very large tree was planted in 1855. This pear was the origin of the pear-shaped hard-boiled candy known as jargonelle pears. Order: Rosales, Family: Rosaceae
