White Willow (Salix alba) a 25m tall deciduous tree native to Europe, Central Asia and North Africa. It has naturalised in many parts of the world and can be rather invasive, though its bright young twigs, which range from red brown to gold add colour in winter. A line of fine red roots is visible at the base of this tree growing alongside a river, typical of riverside willows. Order: Malpighiales, Family: Salicaceae
