White Willows (Salix alba) shown with its roots partly exposed by a falling water level at the lake margin around which they were growing. This 25m tall deciduous tree is native to Europe, Central Asia and North Africa. It has naturalised in many parts of the world and can be rather invasive, though its bright young twigs, which range from red brown to gold, add colour in winter.
