Bitter Dock or Broad-leaved Dock (Rumex obtusifolius) at the end of its first year's growth. A biennial or perennial weed, originally of European origin, Dock is now widely distributed. Its strong, deep taproots make it difficult to remove by hand. The leaf veins and flower stems are often red-tinted, especially in dry, sunny conditions. Order: Caryophyllales, Family: Polygonaceae
