Magnolia dianica (syn. Michelia yunnanensis</i>) 'Velvet and Cream', a compact cultivar of a slow-growing, spring-flowering, evergreen shrub or small tree native to southern China. Unlike some of the other michelias, its flowers have little or no scent. The red-brown indumentum on the buds and young stems is an attractive feature that is emphasised in 'Velvet and Cream' where the buds sheathes are a warmer colour than those of the species and are retained for longer. Order: Magnoliales, Family: Magnoliaceae
