Fallen foliage and acorns of Caucasian Oak or Persian. Oak (Quercus macranthera), a 25-30m tall deciduous tree native to the Caucasus and northern Iran. It does not lose its foliage until the first hard frosts and develops little or no autumn colour. In mild areas it may be semi-evergreen. The production of fertile acorns is often quite low, but the tree produces an abundance of small sterile fruits, as shown here. Order: Fagales, Family: Fagaceae
