Larkspur (Consolida ambigua [syn. Delphinium ajacis]), a summer- to autumn-flowering annual native to the Mediterranean area. The wild plant has blue flowers, but garden forms occur in a range of blue, mauve, purple and pink shades and white. The flower stems can be up to 1m tall, though dwarf strains are also popular.
